Girls don't fight

Gabriel's teacher is reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in class. He seems to be eating it up because I'm suddenly hearing lots about fawns and snow queens and turning various entities to stone. So stuff is getting in. In bed tonight, I dropped some knowledge bombs on him and started asking him about Lucy and Susan. "How'd you know about them?!?!" he asks. I tell him he's not going to believe it but I also read this very special book of his. We talk some more, discussing various plot points. The fawn's in jeopardy and whatnot. I tell G that I bet Lucy will fight to save him... doesn't he agree? "No, Mom," he tells me. "Girls don't fight. They just look pretty and stuff." Dear lord. My son has a mother who works full-time and a father who cooks dinner every night and he has still managed to grow up with a nice little set of 1950s values:-) Are they still airing reruns of Xena: Warrior Princess somewhere? We're working our way through Harry Potter right now but as soon as we're through, I'm gonna need to look for a few books with some very strong female protagonists to set him straight!
